Food woo
From RationalWiki
Food woo is the promotion or prohibition of certain foods for reasons that have little to do with anything scientific. Such promotion/prohibitions are sometimes of a religious nature, but usually relate to some sort of quackery.
Examples of food woo include:
- Fad diets
- Blood type diets
- Raw foodism (including juicing and unpasteurized milk)
- Macrobiotics
- Breatharianism
- Autism and ADHD diets
- Sandra Lee
- Gary Null
- Aspartame fears
- Canola oil fears
- Kombucha
Vegetarianism is not woo in and of itself, but is a component of a great many woo-based food plans, and as a result has long had a reputation for being an eccentricity.
