Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a big desert nation smack-dab in the center of the Middle East. It is a monarchy ruled by the House of Saud, which is propped up by the United States government in exchange for gargantuan quantities of oil. In the grand tradition of the United States supporting democracy around the world, Saudi Arabia, dominated by Wahhabi Islam, is one of the most repressive absolute monarchies in the world.

Saudi Arabia is unique among OPEC member nations, in that they are permitted to adjust their oil output on a short term basis in order to tweak the market price. The rest of OPEC are constrained to the production levels agreed upon at periodic Cartel meetings.

Fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 hijackers were Saudis (as is Osama bin Laden) which is why the U.S. invaded Afghanistan and Iraq in retaliation for the terrorist attack.
