During this era, the late 60s, narratives around raising consciousness of the then-new concept of a 'global community' began to spring up, due to Timothy Leary and his contemporaries such as Alan Watts, Terence McKenna and all these other Esalen (eschelon)[sic] school bound speakers and attendees (note: the strong debunking of this tie on establishmentarian rationalwiki).
