The Green Revolution & the rural exodus[edit]
There's a claim (causally) linking The Green Revolution (TGR) and the rural exodus, and I'm curious as to whether this is simply a case of correlation or whether there's an actual direct link. The reason I'm a bit sceptical about such a strong, causal claim is the general trend towards urbanisation that has occurred irrespective of TGR. Blaming TGR for the proliferation of cash crops for exports seems particularly odd, since TGR focused on food, not cash crops. Unless there were/are some other and (in the text) as yet unexplained factors or mechanisms at work, this suggests to me that, at most, TGR had a very indirect and circumstantial relation to this development by reducing the acreage needed for food. So, if we're going to make such a claim it needs to be properly explained and sourced. ScepticWombat (talk) 21:27, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
