Ufology is the "study" of UFOs, which mostly consists of people saying "wouldn't it be cool if they were alien spacecraft" and bashing the late Philip Klass for saying they aren't.

Isaac Asimov pointed out that if people insist on indentifying UFOs as spacecraft piloted by alien beings, they very well aren't unidentified anymore.

Despite the fact that it's hard to study something that can't be proven to have happened in the first place, ufologists are much like paranormal researchers in that they aren't too bothered by that. As a result, ufologists largely spend a lot of time pushing conspiracy theories regarding government coverups and rumors of covert alien invasion, as well as making up fake history like Erich von Däniken and Robert Lazar.
